one boy, one girl: taking on Chicago one kitchen at a time

We don’t always get to do everything together, and we especially don’t always get to dine a-la-achatz in paris in 1906 at the Ritz. This week one half (the lady-half) is down in the deep south of Memphis for work. My coworkers and I took a detour over to Memphis’ “Gus’s World Famous Hot & Spicy Chicken”. I was sad to be sans-boy, who has a soft-spot or fried noshes… but I didn’t really feel all that guilty when our tables was piled with fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, and fried chicken, with a kick, and a side of ice cold beer on a hot spring night (a treat for this Chicagoan, who traded in 30 degree weather for a nice upgrade in temperature for a few days). It was messy. It was Hot. It was spicy. It came on a styrofoam plate, and it was freaking delicious. Doin’ up the south right!
